2 Insights from our 38th Book: Infinite Power

On March 5, I sat down with a little free time and a few hours later, I had compiled our 17th poetry volume. It’s a collection of my latest poems, written between 2022 and March 2024. It’s called Infinite Power: Overcoming Trauma with Nature’s Energy.

A lot of my work is about trauma healing, and these poems are about how to work on trauma and become more empowered. In this post I want to share two insights that emerged as I was compiling this book:

  1. Overcoming trauma takes time. Trauma is any lingering and disturbing effect – physical, psychological, emotional – after abuse of any kind. To overcome it, we need to work at it over time with self-love and self-compassion. We need to bring awareness to our behavioral patterns, and how trauma motivates us to hide, avoid, stay stuck, become addicted, or a host of other coping mechanisms. We need to build a support system and receive help. All of this takes time and we need to be patient. Trauma healing is the hardest work we will ever do but it’s also the most rewarding.
  2. Nature is a potent healer. We often forget that we are Nature. We are not separate from her. Spending time in Nature allows us to be more present and more open to releasing pain. Nature provides stillness and motion, beauty and flow, all of which help us to get back in tune with ourselves. As we recalibrate in nature, we also learn to let go of unhealthy control, and surrender to our process of awakening.

Power, which this volume is about, refers to the power of authenticity and love. Power is not about wielding authority over others, or amassing many possessions or wealth. It’s about being our full, true selves and living in passion and purpose to serve people and planet. Explore the verses in this book to guide you on the most important journey you will ever take: the trip home to yourself.
