7 Surprising Responses to our Catering Service: Flourishing Foods
In addition to the launch of TreatBox in August, we ventured into catering plant-based and gluten-free fare, including desserts, in July. We were nervous, excited, and joyful to be asked to share our style of food with more people. In 2015, when we released our first of six cookbooks, we made a commitment to share our approach to food:
- Plant-based: we use no animal ingredients to optimize for human health, animal rights, and climate mitigation.
- Gluten-free: we believe in a healthy mind-gut connection, so gluten is not in our menu.
- Low oil: we use little or no oil in our dishes, except for the natural good fats from nuts in our desserts, so we’re not contributing to heart disease.
- Low salt: we are mindful of the connections between salt and high blood pressure, so we don’t over salt our food.
- No refined sugar: mindful of the diabetes epidemic in Fiji, we use zero refined sugars
- Energy Efficient: we use latent heat and other techniques to conserve energy while cooking.
- Nature-loving: we stay close to Mother Nature through local, wholesome foods and minimize the use of processed foods.
Our first catering gig included making plant-based main dishes and bliss balls for a 3-day workshop. We were also asked to make bliss balls for a customer who sent them overseas to their family members. Here’s the feedback we received from these clients:
- “The cauliflower balls were a huge hit!”
- “We’ve never had food like this before.”
- “We couldn’t believe it wasn’t meat.”
- “This food expanded our minds and our concept of veggie food.”
- “It wasn’t only the vegetarians eating the food you made.”
- “Our favorite bliss balls were the ones with cardamom.”
- “The sweets were very good, thanks!”
Well, we’re stoked that our first stint in catering was met with zero negative feedback, but we’re also committed to continuing our relentless experimentation and improving our services.
