Awakening: Book Launch
In 2015, I visited San Francisco County Jail and participated in a weekend workshop on non-violent communication. It changed me, giving me a window into what it looks like to make poor decisions based on trauma. I was struck by the theme that emerged that weekend: if only these men had strong and compassionate role models, their lives could have turned out very differently. And, if I had the abusive childhood experiences they did, I would probably be incarcerated too. Read more about the miraculous effects of showing compassion to prison inmates in my Foreword and the Messages of Hope in the book we are launching today – read on.
Fast forward to 2021, and my company, Alchemus Prime, is honored to be publishing a book produced by a dedicated team. The lead author and illustrator are incarcerated, working actively from their respective prison cells. The book is called Awakening The Sacred Order of Divine Poets, and contains poetry about the journey from trauma to purest love and liberation.
Lead author Oz-Moses, who is of Fijian heritage, drives this project with a startlingly clear vision. His dream is to create poetry that can awaken humankind, and to donate copies of his book to prisons – this dream is coming true as we prepare to donate copies of the book to prisons in at least three countries. We have begun donating books to the national archives of Fiji, non-profit organizations, and libraries. The cover you see below came from Oz-Moses’ mind, and his savings have paid for the illustrations and printing of this book.
As remarkable as this sounds, this is not all! Inspired by this collaboration, Oz-Moses and his team have created follow-up projects that are already underway. The Grand Artymus, the team’s illustrator, has launched his company, Artymus Illustrations (see a sample of his art below), and the team is already working on a sequel to this book.
