Dance: Book Launch
For anyone who knows me, you know that dance is my bliss. It’s only fitting that my seventh volume of poetry is dedicated to this subject.
The book, Dance: Moments of Passion, Inspiration, and Oneness, is a collection of poems I wrote after nights of dancing. The book is dedicated to Denise and Ted, two of my salsa soulmates, as well as everyone I’ve ever danced with.
In our work to help increase engagement around wellness or climate change, we focus a lot on creating community and trust. In the salsa community, not just in the San Francisco Bay Area but also in Honolulu and many other places I’ve had the privilege of dancing, the community is strong, caring, and beautiful.
Imagine walking into a club, not knowing anybody, and feeling safe. Visualize being asked to dance by friendly strangers, enjoying a 3-minute song together, and communicating solely through fingertips. Every moment is movement, mirth, and opening. When I dance, I feel a freedom to express myself, be creative, connect, and have fun. I feel accepted for who I am. There is a shared commitment to music and co-creation of dance.
Once the song is over, the moment is gone, and it’s time for a new moment to arrive. This process builds a sense of mindfulness, detachment, suppleness, and flexibility. When I dance, I feel energized and stay up late, writing poetry. When I wake up the next day, I am ready to face the world. Read this book to discover the energy of joy and passion and how it can infuse you with limitless positive energy. I know we could all use that right now.
