How Nature Educates Children
I’m always hungry for how nature inspires us. Recently I read an article about a teacher who was inspired to take her students outdoors into the woods for an entire day per week: every Monday. She noticed the children making observations, and learning how to achieve their learning goals through experimentation. And, there are simple rules in the woods: “Take care of yourself, take care of others, don’t wander too far away; that’s pretty much it.” Besides becoming more creative and industrious, the children also benefit from being more active, and feeling healthier and happier. A win-win if there ever was one…yay for young biomimics!
