Twin release: The Soul of Feminism and Trauma Healing Journal

I was slowing down, or so it seemed, after my eventful trip to South Africa to facilitate a 3-day gathering for some badass feminists from around the globe. By slowing down, I mean I had taken daily Morning with Marilyn videos off of my to do list for a month, and was taking some time to recover from jet lag. What I found, however, was a surge of energy and inspiration as a result of my change of scene. Here’s what happened:

Right after I landed in Fiji, I began wrapping up the work on the Trauma Healing journal I’ve been working on with my course students – it’s a journal that contains quotes from our class, to inspire anyone who is on a journey to heal from what hurts them the most. The journal got done in a jiffy, and then before I knew what was happening, I had written a book.

Here’s how it went down: I had just been dancing my butt off in a Zumba class, and was showered, snacking, and then planning to do some work but I had no meetings. In my idle snacking state, an idea landed in my mind: what if you wrote a book about your experiences with feminism?

I sat down at my laptop and a few hours later, a book of essays adapted from my blogs, and some new content, was born. After a few rounds of edits in the days that followed, I settled on the title: The Soul of Feminism, to reflect what I consider the core essence of what feminism means. The book contains three parts: a look at what internalized patriarchy is, my take on toxic “feminists” and why they behave like assholes, and case studies that connect characters from seasons 1 and 2 of Bridgerton to Pacific examples of feminists. Each chapter contains questions for reflection and journaling, in your trauma healing journal, ha!

Trauma underlies a lot of the barriers that feminists struggle with, so I decided to release the book and journal together – if you are in search of a tool to help you dig deeper into your personal stance on feminism, and to start 2024 more mindfully – grab a copy of the book, The Soul of Feminism: Reflections, also available via Kindle, and the Trauma Healing journal now. Share with me your experience of each when you can. Onward to a better world!
